The Network Security Specialist is responsible for implementing, supporting and maintaining all IT Infrastructure within including but not limited to servers, networking, firewalls, client devices, VoIP and other equipment and systems.
The post holder will lead on all Cyber Security protection plans for the Trust and ensure that the Trust risk is minimised at all times. This will involve developing and managing processes and procedures for this purpose.
*Technical Support: Participate and help to co-ordinate the provision of second and third-line technical support for all IT Infrastructure including Windows Server and Client Operating Systems, VMware, VMware Horizon View, Windows Terminal Server, SQL and all versions of Microsoft Office to maintain and improve the operational effectiveness of the Trust IT systems. The post holder will be expected to act as technical lead to identify and implement solutions to problems affecting IT services within the Trust.
*Server Configuration: Installation and maintenance of Windows based server systems, hardware and software upgrades in line with Trust standard.
*Systems Administration: maintenance, upgrades, administration and documentation of server systems within the Trust and perform regular housekeeping tasks on all major systems. This will include configuring and monitoring the backup processes on all servers, and carrying out restore operations as required. The post holder will be expected to use their own initiative to identify potential problems with arrangements for system administration and suggest and implement potential solutions.
*System Patching: To supervise and oversee the updating and patching of all systems to minimise the cyber security risk to the Trust. To ensure that adequate testing and monitoring are in place.
*Network Services Support and Management: Use technical skills and tools to carry out defined tasks associated with the planning, installation, upgrade, operation, control and maintenance of local and wide area communication networks. The key emphasis will be on maintaining maximum availability of supported services.
*Project Management: active participation in IT projects arising from the Trusts Digital Strategy and business plans. This will include project management of small projects and working with a project matrix management structure.
*To work within an ISO 20000:1 certified management system and ensure all appropriate actions are undertaken including change and release management, problem management and incident management
*IT Procurement: Providing advice on selection and purchase of IT equipment for the Trust and ensuring adherence to agreed technical standards. Obtaining quotes for supply of goods and services from suppliers in accordance with Trust Standing Orders.
*Supplier liaison: Logging and monitoring progress of support calls with third-party maintenance contract suppliers. Co-ordinating, monitoring and reporting performance of suppliers in terms of contract terms and value for money.
*IM&T Security: ensuring that the requirements of the IM&T Security Policy are adhered to, including password expiry, disaster recovery, closing security loopholes and access levels. Reporting to the Head of ICT all security-related events on the IT systems in the Trust. Ensure adequate antivirus solution is maintained and updated on all clients used on the Trust network.
*Ensure that all Trust security systems such as firewalls, antivirus and policy defined networking is up to date, secure and effective.
*Analyse, log and action all CareCERT and other relevant security bulletins to improve the cyber security assurance of the Trust.
*Procedures and Documentation: contribute to the production of documentation for operational, system and user procedures and guidelines on all major supported Trust systems.
*Infrastructure Development: Monitoring current usage and assisting determination and recommendation of system upgrades required to maintain performance of systems and networks in the Trust as well as to take account of planned changes in usage.
*Training Support: input into in-house user and system training and development programmes (e.g. master classes, course evaluation, skill transfer guides etc.).
*Customer Service: Ensure that support calls logged to the server team are handled effectively and efficiently in line with the departmental SLA.
