    Cloud Operations Engineer, AWS, Linux, Jenkins, CI, Terraform (3214312)

    Location: Newbury, England  |  Contract Type: Permanent  |   |  Salary: £38,000 - £40,000

    Job description

    My client a leading IT solutions provider are seeking to recruit a Cloud Operations Engineer to join their Platform Support team of 8. You will bring the below skill set:

    This role is for an experienced Engineer to take responsibility for the implementation and administration of all the releases within the Cloud Operations team including deployments and changes across the business predominantly on our AWS hosted environments. Excellent knowledge of AWS is essential for this role, along with a good working knowledge of supporting tools and systems such as Rabbit, Github, Elasticsearch, Logz.io, Pentaho, Jenkins, Terraform to name but a few.

    Working alongside the Cloud Operations and Engineering team, there will, from time to time, be a direct working relationship with customers to ensure their expectations are met or exceeded and all with minimal downtime.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Utilise Jenkins, Terraform and other deployment tools and systems on a daily basis recommending improvements where appropriate with a focus on Continual Improvement
    2. Involved in the planning of all release, deployment and change activities in line with expectations and commitments. Resolve any risks and problems that affect scope, schedule and quality;
    3. The Operations Engineer is expected to establish strong working relationships with clients.
    4. Responsible for Communicating all release, deployment and change activities to the required customers, before, during and after release, deployment or change, as required.
    5. Maintain the Forward Schedule of Releases and the Forward Schedule of Changes.
    6. Preparation of platform systems for use in production environments through integration with automation toolset;
    7. Accountable for ensuring release/deployment success, and drive remedial action for failures;
    8. Ensure releases, deployments and changes, and they are delivered on time and meet or exceed expectations;
    9. Document all procedural information, this includes all change and release processes and procedures;
    10. Assist in conducting release readiness reviews, milestone reviews, business go/no-go reviews and pre and post-implementation Review meetings, as and when required. Completing the relevant minutes to track any actions and feedback;
    11. Work with the Service Support Team and incident management processes to recover services as quickly as possible in the event of a failed, service affecting change or release;

    Essential

    * AWS certification / or equivalent experience / training in progress.
    * Experience of running a CI pipeline using Jenkins/Terraform.
    * Knowledge of multiple deployment and testing methodologies.
    * Experience in creating policies, processes and procedures for minor & major releases.
    * Experience of monitoring systems usage & configuration such as graphite, Influx, Grafana or similar.
    * Experience working in a Technical Support team.
    * Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
    * Proactive can-do attitude at all times.
    * Responsible and reliable.
    * Linux experience; installed and worked without GUI access, including Administration skills.
    * Understanding of Agile software development lifecycle.
    * Located within commuting distance of Newbury as this is an office-based role.
